Hovedprodukt: Svanemerket fuktbestandig MDF.

Hvorfor velge MDF (Kampen om trefibrene for økt karbon lagring):
1. Produktet er dokumentert miljøvennlig. Se studie fra Oregon State University. “Life-cycle inventory of MDF in Terms of resources, emissions, energy and carbon, Department of Wood Science and Engineering.

MDF Technical Wood
MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is the most recent among wood based panels. In Europe it began to be manufactured in the early 70's. This product arose as a substitute for solid wood because of several advantages: homogeneity, suitable properties adjusted for different requirements and a better forest performance which implies economic and ecological advantages. Wood is the main component of MDF (approximately 90%). The rest is the adhesive used to join the fibres together. Additionally it can added other products to provide water-resistance, protective properties, etc. Being made of wood, MDF IS A CARBON COLLECTOR.
It has been calculated that one m3 of MDF removes up to two tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide) from the atmosphere, while the manufacture of other materials implies an emission of this compound (CO2) which negatively impacts on climate change. For example, one tonne of plastic produces three tonnes of CO2, or around 1,5 tonnes when recycled plastic is produced. As all wood based panels, MDF was developed looking for a better way to use the forest and wood. Several advantages can be highlighted: MDF ALLOWS SUSTAINABLE USE OF FOREST RESOURCES.
Only about 50% of the tree is used to manufacture of sawn timber or plywood, but the production of MDF uses almost the whole tree. The by-products of plywood and sawn wood manufacturing can be used as raw material to produce MDF while other processes uses the above mentioned by-products as fuel. On the other hand, and due to the wide range of sizes of boards available in the market, the right choice of MDF allows the minimisation of waste material. MDF PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT SURFACE.
The characteristics of the wood fibres which make up the MDF ensure better quality surface than other types of wood based panels. MDF HAS EXCELLENT PHYSICAL PROPERTIES.
There are available in the market several qualities of MDF, which make easy to find THE RIGHT type of MDF to satisfy the requirements of the product that is going to be made. MDF IS VERY EASY TO MECHANIZE.
Due to the structure and size of the fibres which make up the MDF, this board is easy to cut and shape. It is also shatterproof and has a superb quality of finish even when parts have been machined. Last but not least, MDF IS SUITABLE AS FOOD CONTACT MATERIAL.
The type of MDF that is used for the manufacture of food packaging complies with current regulations (EC Regulation 1935/2004) because no substance has been detected in sufficient quantity that may represent a health hazard, that causes unacceptable change of the composition of food or alteration of the organoleptic characteristics of foods; hence MDF can be considered suitable material for food contact.
